Marnick Vermijl Hails PNE's Attacking Threat

5 November 2016

Goalscorer Marnick Vermijl lauded praise on North End's forward forces as the Lilywhites recorded victory at Rotherham this afternoon.

Goals from Jordan Hugill, Callum Robinson and Vermijl himself saw North End to a 3-1 win away win over the Millers, and the visitors looked a threat for much of the game, notably through Aiden McGeady and Robinson who both proved a handful for the Rotherham defence throughout the 90 minutes.

The Millers halved the deficit through Richard Wood with 20 minutes to go; and it looked as though it would be a nervy end to the game until substitute Vermijl met Johnson's cross at the back post to ease the pressure on PNE to see them through.

"We started off really well first-half and got the two goals," acknowledged Vermijl to PNEPlayerHD after the game.

"They had a little spell in the second-half when they scored the goal and we were under pressure.

"We were looking for that third goal and we had a few chances to get the goal before we eventually did.

"They didn't really press us and we have players capable of breaking through teams and we did a really good job today."

Vermijl added that he was equally as happy for Robinson to find the net than himself following his exploits on the training ground recently.

He continued: "We were laughing at it yesterday as he spent time after training working on his heading - he kept trying and trying to score but I'm really happy for him that he got the goal today with his head and his overall performance today was excellent like the whole team.

"I was a little unlucky not to get a goal last week - (after hitting the post against Newcastle) we played really well last week and we didn't get anything out of the game but the performance today was unbelievable."
