North West Football Fans Can Vote For 'Goal Of The Year'

10 November 2016

The finalists of the MBNA Northwest Football Awards 2016 Goal of the Year competition have been announced, with six fantastic goals selected.

Fans can vote for their favourite on Twitter using a hashtag on the night of the awards!

First on the shortlist is an unstoppable a 30-yard right-foot screamer by Georgia Stanway for Manchester City Women, which flew into the top corner against Liverpool.

Anthony Martial’s glorious debut goal for Manchester United – when the young Frenchman ran through Liverpool’s defence and curled home the ball, after coming on as a substitute at Old Trafford – also makes the shortlist.

Another contender is Wigan Athletic’s Max Power, for his superb 25-yard free-kick into the top corner at home to Chesterfield in a 3-1 win.

Preston North End’s, Paul Gallagher, is shortlisted for his strike away at Charlton Athletic, when his excellent technique saw him bend the ball into the top right hang corner from a very tight angle near the byline.

Romelu Lukaku’s stunning solo effort for Everton against his former club, Chelsea, is included, too. The brilliant goal was reminiscent of Ricky Villa's famous weaving run for Spurs in the 1981 FA Cup final against Manchester City.

And finally, Zach Clough's 'worldy' of a goal for Bolton Wanderers against QPR, which was a sensational right foot strike from outside the box that clipped the crossbar as it went in.

The MBNA Northwest Football Awards – which celebrate all things good in the region’s football world, from grass roots to the Premier League and the treatment table to the Boardroom – take place on Monday 14 November at a glitzy black tie event in Manchester.

The voting for the MBNA Goal of the Year will take place on the evening of the awards via Twitter with votes counted from 6.30 pm.

To submit a vote, fans should @mention @NWFAwards and @MBNA with the #hashtag assigned to their selected favourite goal:
