PL Kicks Is Coming To Preston!

9 November 2016

Young people throughout Preston will be offered free football and free match tickets as part of Preston North End’s new Premier League Kicks Programme.

The Premier League’s flagship initiative, which is funded nationally by the Premier League and Sport England will see fully qualified coaches from Preston North End Community and Education Trust deliver sessions to deprived areas in Preston.

Sessions will begin this Saturday at West View Leisure Centre with all participants who take part given free match tickets to PNE's game against Burton Albion on Saturday 26th November.

The sessions will provide young people with the opportunity to take part in weekly football sessions using football as an escapism from daily challenges in a safe and welcoming environment.

The initiative has a long history of using the power of football to help hard to reach youngsters in some of the most high need areas, and Preston North End’s Inclusion Manager Mel Brown was proud to announce that the club is to be on board.

“The PL Kicks programme will play a vital role in allowing us to reach out even further to young people who are at the heart of their communities,” said Brown who is to spearhead the initiative.

“Not only will our sessions provide participants with an outlet to sport, the scheme will also enable youngsters to find routes into education, training and employment with volunteering opportunities and sign-posting options available.”

Sessions are beginning in a variety of different areas in Preston with the Trust working in conjunction with Preston Police to target specific areas where the project is needed most.

Brown continued: “Our PL Kicks programme will use the profile of the football club to create opportunities for young people which includes allowing them free access to live Championship football.

“Our aim is to engage as many young people as possible and we share the Premier League’s vision to ‘build safer, stronger, more respectful communities through the development of young peoples’ potential’.”

Preston North End's PL Kicks PFA Ambassador Alan Browne said: "I'm delighted to be the ambassador of such an innovative scheme that will hopefully make a huge difference to hundreds of young people in areas where this opportunity usually wouldn't be available."
