Alex Baptiste: "It's A Brilliant Result For Us"

22 October 2016

After a hampered pre-match routine, PNE defender Alex Baptiste praised the result and performance of PNE this afternoon.

But speaking after the game, Baptiste admitted to PNEPlayerHD that the defender didn't have the best preparation going into the encounter.

And Baptiste and co managed to shut out the hosts after a late onslaught from the Canaries to claim a terrific 1-0 victory away from home.

'Baps' can be pleased with his performance from both ends of the field; after more than playing his part in North End's backline keeping a free scoring Norwich side out, the on-loan defender proved to be the match winner; meeting Daniel Johnson's free-kick to nod PNE in front on 74 minutes.
Baptiste said: "We had a days less rest, I didn't have my boots or my shin pads and I had to borrow one of the lads' gear and you suddenly think it's not going to be your day but the lads were fantastic and worked their socks off and I felt that we deserved it.

"We were well in the game and I thought we had some really good chances and defended well; it was a great all round performance and it's a brilliant result for us.

"The first-half was probably a bit flat; we had the best chances but Maxi's (Chris Maxwell) made some unbelievable saves in the first-half and then he's made a double save with his feet but we needed everybody to stand up and everybody did today and luckily I got my head on it to score.

"This group of people is fantastic, they've made me feel at home and it's nice to see good honest people working hard and that's where the results come from."
