Daniel Johnson Happy To 'Play His Part' With Goal

27 September 2016

PNE's Daniel Johnson admitted that his goal was extra pleasing tonight.

As a former Villa player, Johnson was never going to be lauded amongst the home faithful this evening, especially when he struck PNE's second mid-way through the first-half.

It was a pleasing night for DJ, returning to the starting XI after having to make do with a substitute appearance against Wigan on Friday, and the midfielder spoke to PNE PlayerHD of his delight after finding the net against the blue half of Birmingham tonight.

"This is my first time playing here so it was good to get on the score sheet," said Johnson after the game.

"I was getting a few boos when i was taking a few corners but it was good to get that goal tonight as an ex Villa player.

"I always like to play my part by getting a goal or an assist because that's a massive part of my game."

The PNE man was part of a side that had had to contain the home side for parts of the game this evening, and whilst the Lilywhites had chances of their own, DJ admitted the hosts took the game to their visitors in the second half.

He added: "It was tough tonight, they came out second-half and put us under a bit of pressure. They kept throwing balls into the box and putting us under pressure but we managed to soak it up, dig in there and get a point.

"I thought we did really well in the first-half, we moved the ball and gave each other options.

"We knew they were going to come at us in the second half but we did well, hung in there and managed to get a point out of it."

Tonight's encounter was the first of two matches where North End take on Birmingham based opposition this week with North End welcoming Villa to Deepdale on Saturday, and DJ is relishing the challenge.

"Hopefully the manager picks me for Saturday, it's the one game I looked for when the fixtures came out so I'm definitely looking forward to it," he concluded.
