Gaffer Pleased With Squad At His Disposal

2 September 2016

Manager Simon Grayson is pleased with the squad he has in place at Deepdale.

North End made a total of ten signings this summer, with three coming on deadline day, and the gaffer is pleased with the recruitment in this window.

"We've been pleased with the business that we did, there have been a lot of negotiations going on and it's can be very difficult for the fans to understand what goes on behind the scenes.

"Obviously everyone wants things to happen but over the last couple of days [of the transfer window] Marnick and Alex Baptiste have been very close to being done and they just took a few others bits to get sorted.

"Aiden McGeady came available on Wednesday which obviously we were delighted about so I think they are three good players with different attributes which will obviously improve the squad and help us going forward.

With over a week to go until the next game, the PNE boss is looking forward to working with his new additions as North End look to get back on track in the Championship.

"We have done some work this week, then the players will have the weekend off, then we will begin the preparations leading up to a busy September schedule with Saturday, Tuesday games a lot of the time.

"It's nice to have this balance to the squad now we've got the numbers that I think are very workable and hopefully the work that we are going to do will produce productive performances on the pitch.

"In the last few games we haven't been far aware from getting a lot more points and to be losing the games by the odd goal just shows that we are never away from games.

"I was speaking to Mick McCarthy on Sunday morning after the game and he compared our two teams to being very similar. Because of the players we have and how we set up, we are never going beat teams 3-0 or 4-0 because we are not prepared to do that.

"We certainly know that we are going to be very competitive in every game and by producing those consistent performances you are probably going to gain more points than you are going to drop."
