Tommy Spurr Wants To Defend ‘Fortress Deepdale’

15 April 2017

Preston North End defender Tommy Spurr is looking forward to being back at Deepdale on Easter Monday where form has been excellent for the Lilywhites.

The No.17 was an early substitute for skipper Tom Clarke at the John Smith’s Stadium on Friday. He could well keep his place for the Bank Holiday clash with the Canaries, where he hopes the home form of 2017 can continue.

“The lads have done really well all year; especially home where we have made Deepdale into a bit of a fortress and made it horrible for teams to come with the tempo we have played at and the energy we have had in the team and hopefully we can keep that going on Monday,” he told PNE PlayerHD.

“Everyone is of the mindset that we don’t want the season to fizzle out or have a disappointing last few results, so hopefully we can go out on a bit of a high and aim to win our last four games.

“The manager wouldn’t let that happen and the lads wouldn’t let that happen either; that’s the sort of group that we have got and we will go into Monday and attack it and try and get the three points, which we have been more than capable of doing all year.”

The left-sided defender played in the reverse fixture at Carrow Road when Alex Baptiste’s header was enough to give the Lilywhites the win and he feels that performance was very similar to the one put in at Huddersfield without the same rewards.

“All year there has been results that have been surprising and you never know who is going to beat anyone,” he continued.

“We got a good result down there when they were right up there and hopefully we can get the same outcome this time, and even more convincingly.

“The performance down at Carrow Road was actually very similar to Friday, being disciplined and compact and organised.

“I am not sure Monday will be the same; with us being at home the emphasis will be on us to take the game to them, but we are capable of doing that at home with the players that we have in our team.”
