Development Pleases Davies

22 August 2017

Defender Ben Davies is pleased with the progress he has made over the last six months or so.

Davies enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Fleetwood Town last season and feels that, as well as his recent starts in the Championship, have helped improve him as a player.

The 22-year-old is part of a young squad under Alex Neil and is happy to see the gaffer giving young players the chance to prove themselves in the league.

"I think it's great that the gaffer's not afraid to put young players in and so far we have shown that we can step in and do a job.

"I'm really grateful for the opportunity, I've got my head down the last six months and over summer and worked hard to try and come back in as good a shape as I can and improve as much as I can.

"I know I have a lot more I need to improve on but I'm more than willing to put the work in and see where it takes me.

On his spell at Highbury, Davies continued: "I'm sure it helped me, I'm really grateful to everyone at Fleetwood, I learnt quite a lot over there while playing at the highest level I had currently played at.

"Coming back here I knew it would be a step up again so it's a great test and I think in the last couple of games I've probably learnt just as much as I learnt in ten or 15 games last season just because of the calibre of players and the speed of the game.

North End have picked up seven points from the first four games and Davies feels there is more to come from this team and is hoping to build on the good start with a positive result against Middlesbrough this weekend.

"We are a young side and we are all hungry and keen to learn and improve so I think that only bodes well for individuals and obviously the club.

"I think looking at the first four league games I think we would probably have taken the points tally that we've got, we are quite happy with the start we have made. If we can go to Middlesbrough, which is a tough place to go, and pick up a result then we will be over the moon with the way we've started going into the international break and we will have more than hit our target."
