Josh Harrop: "We're Fresh, We're Young, We're Exciting"

19 August 2017

Josh Harrop was certainly descriptive when he spoke to iFollow after making his starting debut in a Preston North End shirt this afternoon.

The 21-year-old summer signing played the first hour of today's win, playing just behind Jordan Hugill, and Harrop was delighted when he spoke to the club's media channel after the game from a team and personal point of view.

"It's always good to get the three points as that's what we want every game," said the youngster.

"The confidence between all of us in the changing room is great; There was some exciting stuff being played and we should have a few more goals to be fair but I'm sure that will come.

"I've not played in many first team games so it was good for me to get the minutes today and get the fitness under my belt and good to get the win."

Spectators will leave Deepdale this evening having seen North End more than take the game to their opponents, evident in the stats were Alex Neil's side had 21 shots compared to Reading's seven.

One minor negative is that the scoreline should have read more in North End's favour and Harrop added that that is something that needs to be addressed with a full seven days to prepare for the trip to Middlesbrough.

"We've said in the changing room that we've got to start taking our chances," added the No. 10. "It could have been one of those games where we could have had all of them chances but still slipped up but we didn't luckily and I'm sure in the next few games we'll start taking our chances.

"We're starting to learn each other's game. We know Tom Barkhuizen can run in behind and we'll look to use that quite a lot this season; We've got Jordan who is a big striker. We've played the ball and there's some good combination and he's finished it.

"We're a young team and we're winning. We're hungry and we all want to be at the top so we're going to be pushing together. Age is just a number - we're fresh, we're young and we're exciting so it's a good step."
