Woods Nearing Return

31 August 2017

Calum Woods was delighted to get 90 minutes under his belt in a behind closed doors game against Fleetwood Town.

Woods, who has been out for over a year after suffering a knee injury last summer, has made another step closer to his return to action as he builds up his match fitness.

On the game, the 29-year-old said: "I'm really enjoying being near enough back to full fitness, I played 90 minutes the other day in a bounce game against Fleetwood and I got through that.

"That was a big thing for me after being out for so long, I really enjoyed the game, it was good to get some fitness.

"I had been training for a couple of weeks before it and there were no other games available for me to play in so it was great to get a game.

"It was a great feeling to get through it, mentally more than anything, just to get over that step with being out for so long so I was made up to get through it.

After the injury, the defender vowed to be back stronger than before and so far that is proving to be the case.

"I've started to come through with everything now, we've done speed tests this week and I would say they are even faster than before I got injured." Woods continued.

"I've done a lot of strength training and a lot of speed work, I wanted to come back fitter and stronger than ever so I am just looking forward to when my first game comes now really.

As he nears reaching match fitness, Woods is loooking forward to his return to first team action, and has been impressed with the start to the season under manager Alex Neil.

"The manager has come in and he's done a lot of hard work on the training pitch and off the pitch as well, watching videos and things like that and it's obviously paying off at the minute as you see on a Saturday.

"We aren't really conceding many goals and we are getting good results against some good teams.

"We've started really well, we've been playing good football and there has been opportunities to get goals so we will just keep doing what we're doing on the training pitch and I'm sure there will be a lot more goals coming our way."
