Ben Davies Happy With Clean Sheet But Rues Missed Chances

26 December 2017

After North End chalked up another clean sheet in the stalemate to Barnsley this afternoon, Ben Davies had mixed emotions with how the proceedings panned out at Oakwell.

In summary, Alex Neil’s side constrained the hosts to limited opportunities in front of goal, particularly in the first half, however, after a promising opening to the game, North End couldn’t convert one of their own chances and force the issue on their opponents.

“First and foremost, it’s a clean sheet and it stretches the unbeaten record to eight,” weighed up Davies post match.

“You can’t get beat if you’re keeping clean sheets so that’s pleasing but going forward, we need a bit more to get a goal or a couple of goals but as the game wore on it started to get scrappy. They matched us up quite well to be fair so it was probably a fair result.

“We need to take our chances when we’re on top but we’re eight unbeaten and that’s ten clean sheets now.

“We’ve got high standards now and we demand from each other. It didn’t quite work out which is disappointing, we didn’t really get on the ball and play today. They made it difficult but we have to take the positives and move on to Friday now.”

The Christmas period of fixtures typically marks the half way point in a season, and so far Davies has amounted 18 appearances so far in this campaign, more than he managed in his first four years at North End since turning professional in 2013.

Speaking after today’s game, Davies took to iFollow to assess his first half of the season on an individual level.

Davies continued: “It’s a different test each game. I’m working hard through the week and my performances are going okay at the moment so I’m quite happy.

“I’ve had to be patient at PNE but I knew all along that I was wanted by the club so I just had to be patient, learn and now this year I’ve come back and managed to get my foot in the door so I need to keep going now.

On the proposition of Cardiff City on Friday, Davies added: “We had a great result against them at home but it’s a different game going to their place but we’ll be going there with our tails up to try and push for a positive result.”
