Neil: "They Will Make It Tough"

7 December 2017

Despite their position in the league at present, PNE boss Alex Neil won't be underestimating this weekend's opponents Burton Albion.

The Lilywhites take on the Brewers on Saturday afternoon at the Pirelli Stadium, and although they sit at the foot of the Championship, the gaffer knows his side will need to be at their best to get a result against Nigel Clough's side.

"I don't think the players will be under any illusion about how difficult the match will be," Neil told iFollow PNE ahead of the game, "I think Burton have been a really competitive team in this league for the last couple of seasons and going to their place is not an easy place to go.

"They make it tough, it's a tight, compact ground, you're right in touch with the fans and I'm sure they will want to try and turn their fortunes around.

"They have just hit bottom of the league so this is going to be a really tough match because we know they are desperate for the points but equally, so are we."

"They've conceded a lot of late goals which has cost them points, if you had taken those late goals away they would be in a far healthier position than what they are in and I'm sure Nigel will be making his players aware of that they need to keep going for the 90 minutes.

"They've played well against some really good sides, certaintly at home, and we need to make sure we go there and perform as well as we can because it's going to take that to get a result.

Daniel Johnson will be back in contention this weekend after suspension, and forward Stephy Mavididi has returned to training after injury. The pair provide the manager with more options for the weekend and the gaffer is pleased to have a few selection headaches.

"Obviously we've still got quite a few players injured which would be nice if we could get them all back but it's nice to get a few of the lads back.

"It makes it so I've got dilemmas in terms of selection, and it was nice on Saturday to be able to make a couple of subs at half time to try and chance how we were approaching the game. For a good five or six weeks, we didn't have the luxury of doing that really."
