Tom Targets Top Six

22 December 2017

With North End sitting just two points outside of the Play-Off places, Tom Barkhuizen is targeting a spot in the top six in the near future.

A win on Saturday against Nottingham Forest could see the Lilywhites break into the top six, depending on results elsewhere, and the forward feels it would be a boost to the squad to show they are capable of competing with the best in the division.

On the possibility, Barkhuizen said: "It would be a real lift for everyone, we've not been in the Play-Offs for a while now, so it would be nice to get back in there and see it as a kind of award but also a marker of where we want to be.

"There's nothing better than when you do have a good run of form you get see you are getting rewards from it.

"To get in to that top six with some of the sides that are in this division would be a real plus for us and a massive boost, to show that we can mix with the big boys and it's not a one off, that we can sustain it until the end of the season."

North End have turned their form around of late, going six games unbeaten after a tough spell in terms of injuries and results, and the 24-year-old reiterated the importance of not dwelling on that period.

"We turned around our form both home and away pretty dramatically over the last few weeks. We've won four of the last five, we are doing pretty well, and we've got some big players back. We said before that once we get our biggger players back then we would be a force to be reckoned with and we've proved that over the last few weeks.

"I said at the time that we shouldn't be judged on that period, I think too much was made of that period, people were maybe panicking a little bit, not within the dressing room but maybe outside of that.

"We have lost five games all season, if they were spread out over a different period then people wouldn't say anything. We are back on track now, we are where we want to be, we are in and around the Play-Offs and hopefully we can sustain it now and really push on."
