Chris Maxwell feels North End are close to achieving their ultimate goal and believes the squad are almost ready to compete for a place in the Premier League.
Speaking to iFollow PNE ahead of the trip to Cardiff City, Maxwell outlined the ambitions of the dressing room and feels the unbeaten run of eight games shows the quality of the side.
"We want to get promoted, it's as simple as that, we want to play in the Premier League. Every player at this club wants to be a Premier League player, the staff want to get there and undoubtedly the fans want to get there.
"We are so close now that we can almost taste it, the performances that we're putting in are giving us the platform to pick up three points consistently and nobody could argue that in those eight games we could have won every one of them.
"This is football though, it happens. You just look at Barnsley, we've had a couple of chances, hit the post, sometimes that goes in but that's part and parcel of it all.
"We've just got to make sure that we keep grinding them out, keep grinding points out, even if it's just one point away at Barnsley, it's a tough place to go and it's another point on the board and another point towards what we want to achieve."
On the recent run of form, the Welshman continued: "We've been excellent, we've been very solid, you don't go eight games unbeaten in the Championship without doing something right.
"There have been some really good performances in those eight games from everyone so as a collective unit we are doing really well.
"Every player who has come into the team, whether it's off the bench or starting the games, has really performed and I think we are just lacking a little bit of luck at the moment. We are so close to being a very good team."
The 'keeper has played in every competitive first team game so far in the 2017/18 campaign, and believes there is no-one to fear in the Championship.
"We believe we are one of the best teams in the league, we believe we've got one of the best groups of players and our performances have shown that.
"We've not been dominated by any team, we've held our own against every team and in my opinion we've been the better team in 99.9 per cent of the games that we've played.
"We have just got to make sure that we keep doing what we are doing and going to places like Cardiff, it's going to be difficult, but we've got to do our thing and go there and play how we can play and perform like we have been performing and hopefully we can get that little bit of luck at the top end of the pitch."
