Tommy Spurr Looking To Take His Chance

23 January 2017

After being part of an impressive second-half turn around at Villa Park at the weekend, Tommy Spurr is aiming to cement his place in the first team.

The left-back, who signed in the summer, has had to wait for his opportunities this season and was pleased with the team’s performance and character in the Midlands.

Reflecting back on the draw with Aston Villa, Spurr said: “The first-half was tough, we were not at our best and not at the standards we have set so far this year. In the second-half we showed what we are all about and got back into it and maybe could have nicked it at the end.

“It’s a tough place to go, they’ve not been beaten at home so you don’t need those things going against you. We got back into it, managed to get a point out of it which is good considering we were 2-0 down.

“It was nice to get a game, nice to get back into it and get a positive result out of Saturday.”

Spurr is already focused on the next fixture against Ipswich Town and feels this weekend’s visitors have a similar approach to football as the Lilywhites.

“We know what Mick McCarthy sides are going to be like. We’re similar in that way, where we are organised and work hard. That’s the first thing that you start from.

“Then we have got the bit of quality in our team that can get us a goal and we’ve got the other lads that keep them out but it all starts from that organisation and hard work that we have in our team.”

The 29-year-old is hoping to take his chance in front of the home fans and help the team get another three points at Deepdale.

“I’ve been resigned to just coming on for the last five minutes just to see things out. It’ll be nice to play at home and try and get another positive result because we’ve been quite strong. Hopefully, I can be a part of a team that gets another three points.

“You want to play every week but its part and parcel of football when the team is doing well you have to keep yourself right and when you get a chance, take it. That’s what I’m trying to do at the moment and try and get some more games under my belt.”
