PNE Face Accrington Stanley In Carabao Cup First Round

16 June 2017

Preston North End have been drawn away to Accrington Stanley in the first round of the Carabao Cup.

PNE were seeded in the draw and will make the short trip to face the League Two outfit in the first week of the 2017/18 season, with games set to be played the week commencing 7th August.

Simon Grayson will take his side to Wham Stadium for the second time in two months, with a pre-season friendly scheduled this July.

On the draw, the PNE boss said: "I'm pleased with it, the last thing you want is a long journey at that stage and it's not too far for the supporters to go to and support the team.

"Everyone will concentrate on the league but it's important because its the second game and it can be vital for momentum at the start of the season, we did that last year against Hartlepool.

"So we will treat it with a huge amount of respect, we want that momentum but also you want a good cup run because you don't know where it's going to take you.

"I like this competition, I won it as a player so I know what it means to be on a winning side and I know what it means to clubs and the supporters."

Further details on the date of the fixture and ticket details will be announced in due course.
