Clarke: "Every Game Now Is Massive"

6 March 2017

North End captain Tom Clarke feels that every game is a big one going into the final stages of the season.

There are just 11 games left for the Lilywhites in the Championship this season, and with PNE sitting in ninth place, nine points off the Play-Offs, the skipper knows it's important to pick up as many points as possible to keep pushing towards the top six.

Simon Grayson's side were beaten by seventh place Fulham on Saturday, but the squad aren't giving up hope of ending the season on a high and will look to bounce back quickly against Derby County on Tuesday night.

Speaking to PNE PlayerHD ahead of the trip to the iPro Stadium, Clarke said: "It was a disappointing result on Saturday, it was a big game against Fulham and every game now is massive.

"We are in a good position, to even be talking about pushing for those Play-Off spots is brilliant and it's testament to the squad and the staff that we are in and around there and doing so well.

"The team is disappointed but we go again against a Derby side who everyone says are pushing for the Play-Offs so it will be another tough test and another good game to be involved in.

Bouncing back from disappointment is something the current squad have shown on a regular basis since Grayson took over at Deepdale, and Clarke is hoping that is the case again against Derby on Tuesday evening.

"Since I've been here that's always something that we've done. We've been on a good run, it's difficult to take the result but we have to move on and this team does that very well.

"We go again and we will try and show our strength of character and hopefully we can get a positive result to build on our decent league position that we are in.

The Rams ended a disappointing run with a victory at the weekend and North End's No.5 is expecting a tough test against Steve McLaren's side.

On Tuesday's opposition, the 28-year-old continued: "The squad there is really good, they have strength in depth and they have spent a lot of money and have a good manager so we know whatever team they put out is going to be a tough test.

"We know we need to react from the game on Saturday and we have been working on the training pitch today working on them and hopefully we can get a positive result."
