Chris Maxwell took to his post match interview this evening to praise the defensive effort in front of him during tonight’s 0-0 draw to Bolton.

Fresh from his International duties with Wales, Maxwell played his part in North End keeping a clean sheet tonight, which gives the Lilywhites a solid foundation to work on going into Tuesday’s trip to Bristol City.

“It was a tough game, tough opposition, tough conditions and we’ve come away with a 0-0 which equals a point,” said Maxwell.

“All in all we’re taking a lot of positives from it - ideally, we would have liked the three points from the form that we’ve shown and the run that we’ve been on to stop the rot.

“In such a manner and in such a solid defensive performance – and also creating chances at the other end, I feel as though we can build on this.”

North End have had a fortnight to put things right on the training ground following the International break, and although Maxwell was away for most of that with Wales, he believes the break has done the side the world of good.

“The way the manager is and the staff that we’ve got, they prepare us in the best possible way. I’ve been away which hasn’t been ideal for the team but coming into it I know I’m playing behind a bunch of boys that are going to be confident from the couple weeks training that we’ve had.

"The one day training I had before the game I could see that we had confidence in an abundance. It’s great to get back out there, it’s great to get a clean sheet on the board and we move onto Tuesday.

“You look at the defending tonight, it’s been excellent. The shots that I’ve had to face have either been from distance or at an angle which gives myself the best possible chance to save it.

"I feel as though we’ve lacked a bit of luck in this run that we’ve had. Obviously a few of the boys – and as a team as well – we’ve struggled for form but the luck hasn’t been there. We’ve seen the other side to it, as well as some fantastic headers, some fantastic blocks and real organisation; from all of us, all over the pitch. It’s certainly one we can build on.”
