Welcome Return To Action For Woods

23 November 2017

After picking up a knee injury against Aston Villa earlier this month, Calum Woods was delighted to be back in action so soon, starting both of the last two games.

The defender suffered a serious knee injury last summer which kept him out for the 2016/17 campaign, and so Woods was pleased that the damage to his medial ligament only kept him side-lined for a matter of weeks.

The 30-year-old had only trained for a day before starting against Bolton Wanderers, but played the full 90 minutes in that fixture and on Tuesday night and admits he was desperate to get back on the pitch.

On the last two games, Woods said: "To come out with a couple of good results as well, especially the other night, it's a good feeling and to play a full 90 minutes in both games too so I'm really happy to get through the games.

"I didn't know what to expect, I got a scan and there was a little tear in there but it seems to have recovered quite quickly, I've missed enough football over the last year or so and I really wanted to play and get through it, it feels ok now so I'm happy I've done that.

"The more I play the fitter I'm going to get and the better I'm going to play as well. That's what I want to do, I want to play as many games as possible."

With Darnell Fisher returning to the side on Tuesday night, Woods moved from right back to left back, but insists he is happy to play anywhere as long as he's on the pitch.

"I will play anywhere the manager wants me to play, I just want to be playing in the team and I will play anywhere for the team. I enjoy playing left back, right back or centre back."

Tuesday's victory was a welcome result after a tough run of games, and the former Huddersfield Town man is now hoping PNE can build on that win and climb the table.

On Saturday's trip to Norwich, he continued:

"It will be another tough game for us, we know Norwich are a good team, but after the win on Tuesday we are going to be full of confidence and we will be going there to make sure we get a good result.

"You see how tight the league so three points on Saturday will be great and we would be back up there so we will look forward to Saturday."
