Fine Margins For Ben Davies

23 September 2017

Ben Davies believed it was a case of so close yet so far for North End this afternoon following today's 0-0 draw to Millwall.

Defensively, North End were as solid as they have been all season this afternoon but it was on the offensive front were PNE couldn't quite click today, and Davies was a frustrated figure when he spoke to iFollow after the game.

"It's frustrating for us as you'd think one goal would have been enough to win the game as they didn't show much up front but we didn't get that today and that's frustrating.

"Millwall came out and really gave as good as they've got. It tested us out but I think we dealt with it at the back pretty well.

"It's a positive as it shows team are weary of us but at the end of the day, we're at home and we know we can beat teams at home. Whether they're top of the league or nearer the bottom, we always feel like we can come here and get the three points.

"It's disappointing but they've come and worked their socks off and it's been hard to break them down but as I say we were solid defensively and we can take positives into Tuesday.

"It was hard to break them down and when we did break them down, we had to take the chances. When we moved the ball well it caused them problems but on another day, it goes in and one goal would have been enough and we win the game 1-0 but it wasn't to be so we take the point and the clean sheet and move on to Tuesday and take it from there.

"It can't go your way every single week so when it's not quite going your way and you're finding it hard to break teams down, you need to rely on a solid defensive display and we got that today."

Davies is arguably enjoying his best spell in a North End shirt since stepping up from the youth to the first team in 2013 with six starts under his belt already under Alex Neil.

Since signing a professional deal with the Lilywhites five years ago, Davies has had to be patient for his chance undergoing several spells out on loan to lower league clubs - but now - now that he's more than climatised himself to the Championship, Davies is oozing confidence whilst still learning the tricks of the trade.

On his personal development so far this season, Davies added: "It's a lot different to what I've played before. Playing with better players helps but I'm still learning every week. Through games, I can teach myself and say to myself I can do better doing that next time etc. It's helping me playing at a higher level and as we're keeping clean sheets along the way and playing with a solid defence, it's helping my development so I'm enjoying being involved.

"You learn a lot more than you're playing rather than just being around the squad, so it's great to be out there and as I say I'm learning whilst the team's doing well so it's easier.
