Hugill: "We're Only Going To Get Better"

19 September 2017

Jordan Hugill feels the current PNE squad is only going to keep improving as the season goes on.

Alex Neil has a young squad at Deepdale and despite having a terrific defensive record since the start of the season, things are now starting to click at the top end of the pitch with six goals in two games for North End.

Hugill is enjoying his football and feels there is only more to come from the forward players as they learn more about each other game by game.

On the attacking options available to the manager, the PNE striker said: "A lot of teams now can't focus on one person to think about because we've got a good four or five threats going forward now.

"We've got people coming from everywhere and I think now we aren't focusing on our goals coming from a certain area, they can come from anywhere.

"The more we keep playing together the more it's going to click and I think the more you are going to see worked goals like you did for the third the other day [against Birmingham City].

"I think it was brilliant from DJ to find Seani, I blocked the centre half from getting out to him and then it was just a pass across to Barky. It was perfect and I think there will be more stuff like that to come from us the more we play together so I think now we are starting to click and get each other."

Speaking ahead of the visit of Millwall, Hugill continued: "We are now starting to gain quite a lot of respect from the Championship as a whole, now teams are coming thinking we are a good team now and I think there's still a lot of room for improvement with our team as well.

"If you look there are a lot of young players in our team and there's always room for improvement with young players so I think we will only get better and hopefully go up the table."

North End's start to the season sees the club in fourth place in the Championship ahead of the visit of Millwall on Saturday, and although those on the outside may be surprised by PNE's impressive start, the expectations have always been high within the dressing room.

"It's credit to the manager and all of the lads, everyone is putting a shift in on the pitch and I think it's now showing, we are starting to prove a lot of people wrong I think and we are going really well." The 25-year-old continued.

"The gaffer has come in and he expects a lot from us and I think he is right to because we are a talented group of lads.

"I think we are surprising a lot of people, you just look at the Championship show on a Saturday night, we watch it and Preston don't get much coverage because no-one really expects much but I think now opinions are starting to change about us and how well we are doing and what's going on.

"It's quite nice to see that we are proving a lot of people wrong. Me as a person, I like proving people wrong as it is so to prove a lot of people wrong as a team and as a squad is brilliant."
