Robinson Delight At Taking His Chance

27 September 2017

With competition high in the dressing room at Deepdale, Callum Robinson was delighted to make his mark from the bench against Hull City.

The forward has had to be patient this season with manager Alex Neil having plenty of options at the top end of the pitch but Robinson was pleased to make an impact, scoring his first of the season, after waiting for his chance.

Speaking to iFollow PNE after scoring the winner in the 2-1 victory over Hull City, Callum said: "Obviously it's hard for the lads who are out of the team and I've been out of the team for the last four to five games but the lads have been doing well.

"It's a team game and it's going to be a long hard season and we're going to need everybody and he stressed that to everybody that everybody will be getting used.

"You've just got to make sure you're training right as 11 players aren't going to win you the league or get you promoted and into the Play-Offs so we need to make sure that everybody is right and when you do get your chance, you take it."

North End made it back to back wins in the Championship after the 3-1 win at Birmingham City a fortnight ago and Robinson feels the attacking intent within the team shows how much the team has progressed in recent months.

"We've done really well away from home. We stuck together and played as a unit so to come here and get a win and play some good football at times as well. Towards the end we were really attacking which is a good thing, we never sat back and thought we'll take the point.

"That shows how far we've come. We weren't ready to settle, we wanted to get the win. It's a big gamble taking players like Welshy [John Welsh] off and Jordan [Hugill] up there but he obviously thought that we needed something different and it worked tonight. It's really pleasing for the subs as Daryl and Josh did really well. We've just got to make an impact to get ourselves in the team.

It was two substitutes that created the winning goal, Daryl Horgan providing the cross for Robinson to head home PNE's second, and it's something the pair have been working on in training.

"Funny enough me and Daryl just yesterday were literally practicing, we do it now and again where we do some extras where he puts the balls in and I hang around the box. Sometimes you may think it's pointless but sometimes it works.

"You make your own luck and I'll take it and it's good to get my first goal of the season as well and that's the main thing for my confidence."
