Kevin O’Connor Joins Fleetwood Town On Loan

25 January 2018

Irish left back Kevin O’Connor has joined Fleetwood Town on loan for the rest of the season.

The summer signing from Cork City made his debut in the first round of the EFL Cup at Accrington back in August, but had to wait until November for his league debut, coming on at half-time against Aston Villa in front of the Sky cameras at Deepdale.

He would make a further seven appearances, the last of which came on Boxing Day at Barnsley, however, the return to fitness of both fellow Irishman Greg Cunningham and Josh Earl has meant his game time has become limited.

A move to the Fylde coast with Uwe Rosler’s Highbury side will give the North End No.25 the chance of regular first team football.

Fellow 22-year-old defender Ben Davies enjoyed a fruitful spell with the Cod Army in the second half of last season, reaching the League One Play-Offs, before returning to PR1 in the summer and nailing down a spot in Alex Neil’s first team this season.

Town currently sit in 13th in the third tier table, with their next game away at Gillingham on Saturday, where Kevin could be in line to make his debut in red and white.
