Graham Burke opened his PNE account with the opening goal in PNE's 7-0 win over Bamber Bridge this afternoon.
Burke carried the ball inside the box and waited for an opening before slotting the ball across goal after just five minutes.
The Irishman, who recently arrived from Shamrock Rovers was delighted to grab an early goal to settle the nerves.
Speaking to iFollow PNE at half-time during today's first friendly of the 2018/19 campaign, he said: “It was brilliant to get out there with the boys and get into a position and get an understanding of everybody.
“That was important for me. It’s brilliant to come on and play and get a goal is fantastic.
“It came early into the game, so obviously I was a bit nervous coming in and getting to play with everybody but getting the goal early into the game was able to relax me and go and play the game.”
Burke’s countryman Sean Maguire picked up a first half hat-trick and North End’s new No.19 is looking forward to working alongside the striker.
“Seani has great movement so for me playing in that position, to have someone like that is brilliant.
“It makes my job a little bit easier knowing where he’s going to be and the runs he’s going to make.
“He’ll feel like, having that break, he can come back in sharp, feel fresh and get ready to go again. You can see his movement with the goals he scored so for him it’s fantastic.”
Although he hasn’t been at the club long, Burke is already settling into the squad and enjoying his time in PR1.
“It’s a week in and I have to get an understanding of how he wants me to play that position he wants me to play. As in defensively and in attack but as the games go on I’ll learn more.
“I’m enjoying it. All the lads have made me feel really welcome; as in the Irish boys doing things in our free time after training.
“So it’s been brilliant for me, I’m really enjoying it, I’m just looking forward to every day.”
