Callum Robinson On Fans’ Importance

31 July 2018

PNE’s No.7 Callum Robinson is calling all North End supporters to repeat the white-hot atmosphere of the end of last season to propel the team on in 2018/19.

The last time the Lilywhites were in action at Deepdale in a competitive fixture, they knew that they had to win to stand a chance of making the Play-Offs and the North End faithful were right behind them from the off against Burton Albion back in May.

And the 23-year-old forward wants to see a repeat of that every week this campaign, to help the team achieve their ambitions of taking another step forward.

“The fans will be looking forward to [the season] as much as we are,” he told iFollow PNE. “It is always a long wait for the season to start, but if they can get behind us even more this season, we can go one step further than least season and get into the Play-Offs.

“Hopefully it is rocking on Saturday and we can perform and get the result and the points that we want.

“We want every game to have the same sort of atmosphere as the last game of last season, because when you have the fans behind you it gives you that extra ten or 20 per cent.

“Fans probably don’t realise that, but for us as players, we know that if they can be positive and get behind us, then we are going to have a great chance this season.”

The work during the last five weeks has been an intense period building up towards the opening weekend of the EFL SkyBet Championship and Callum believes the team are ready to be at the top of their game for the visit of Steve McLaren’s Queens Park Rangers.

“We are really looking forward to the start of the season, it is what we have been working hard during pre-season to get ourselves ready for,” he continued.

“The lads have go that different type of energy this week and we are all ready for it.

“The manager is going to have some tough decisions. Everyone has done well this pre-season and everyone wants to start the first game, but we are all going to have to work hard this week and wait and see what happens.

“We all want to impress in pre-season, but the games mean something now, it is all about the points and everyone will have to bring their ‘A’ game, because this is where it starts.

“It is a long season, but to get to where we want to get to, we have to start brightly on Saturday. It is always good to try and get a win in your first game, to get that first win out of the way.”

The visitors will be in the same mindset in PR1 and the attacker is well aware of what will be required to compete with the London side.

“Every team will be buzzing this week, ready for the season to start.

“We have to make sure our quality comes out, but that we are working hard as well, to make sure we are right and get the win that we all want.

“When a new manager goes in there are always different ways to play the game, but we will go through that this week and the gaffer will give us all the details of what to expect and we will be ready for it on Saturday,” he added.
