High Hopes For Harrop

26 July 2018

With just one pre-season friendly left to face before the 2018/19 season gets underway, Josh Harrop has his sights set on the first game as he and his teammates look to go one step further than last season.

The squad are in good shape ahead of the new campaign, and Harrop explained the hard work that goes on every day at Springfields as the manager looks to push his squad to be the best they can be.

Ahead of the final pre-season game of the summer against Oldham Athletic on Saturday, Harrop told iFollow PNE: "Everyone came back for pre-season fit anyway, we have topped up the miles playing the games and everyone is fit.

"There haven't really been any injuries so everyone has got the minutes they need and we are going in to the season strong, fitness wise and mentally. We just can't wait to get started and we want to be at it.

"Every day we train hard here, there's no day where we come in and go through the motions, the manager has everyone at it in every training session.

"There are no slack days, we come in and do our work and then we go home, everyone is putting in 100 per cent every day and the manager and everyone works together.

After Saturday's game, the focus will solely be the opening game of the Championship season against Queens Park Rangers, and the 22-year-old admits the squad can 't wait to get back to competitive action.

"You want to be playing in the league, in competitive games and everyone can't wait now to get going.

"There's nothing better than starting the games and playing games and getting good results, so that's what we want to be doing straight from the get go. We want to be winning games, performing well and performing for the whole season.

"We take every game as it comes, obviously there will be injuries and different circumstances in every game but we want to win every game. We want to be right there at the top of the league. That's the aim, that's what we want to be doing so we can't wait to get the season going now and perform."

North End have faced two Premier League sides in West Ham and Burnley in the last two pre-season games, and testing themselves against higher opposition has only pushed the squad further as they compete for a place in the manager's starting Xl.

"We've played two good teams the last two games and we've come out with a lot of positives from the games. There hasn't been much in each game, we have performed quite well with two different teams and it's put us in a good mindset going in to the season.

"Everyone is competing for places and everyone has been playing well and performing at a high level. There are two players for every position so the manager has got a hard decision but he will sit down and make the right decisions.

"Come the first game of the season everyone wants to be starting but that's not always the case, we are a team, everyone is together and we all want to do our best this season so we will work together as a team.

"Obviously there will be a few unhappy people but we will stick together and we will work hard and everyone will get their opportunity once the season comes."
