Hunts Issues Rallying Cry

24 March 2018

With North End gearing up for their final push for the Play-Off places after the international break, Paul Huntington has spoken about how vital the Lilywhites fans will be in helping the club reach their goal.

The fans have provided great support all season but have been especially vocal in recent games, with over 2,500 fans making the journey to the north east for the win over Sunderland.

Speaking to iFollowPNE, the defender told of the difference the players have felt with their backing.

“We really felt it as players, especially the last couple of games. The away support at Sunderland was great and when we have that backing it really drives us on as a team.

“It really drives us on to want to get those wins that we need and it’s really important. It’s vitally important to us as a club, not just on a matchday.

“We’ll need them between now and the end of the season. It’s up to us to give them something to shout about, it works both ways. We appreciate the support we’ve had and hopefully they can push us on for the remaining games. “

With the closing stages approaching, there is only a feeling of excitement around both Springfields and Deepdale; with the young and hungry North End squad determined to leave their mark on the campaign.

“We’ve got eight games and a lot to play for. It’s an exciting time for us as players, the staff and for the fans. We know we’ve got areas that we spoke about after the game on Saturday that we can work on and we’re far from the finished article.

“We’ll get that balance of training and a bit of rest over the weekend and this week to recharge and get ready for that last push.

“Even emotionally, it can be draining at times. Especially the way we’ve gone about it this season and how much we invest.

“We’ve spoken about leaving it all out on the pitch every week and wanting it more than the opposition; sometimes it hasn’t gone the way we would have liked but that’s never through a lack of effort or commitment to each other.”

After the loss to Fulham, PNE reacted in the perfect way and North End’s No.23 is focused on keeping up that form against Sheffield Wednesday.

“It’s important to put things in perspective really, I’m not great after games when it’s not gone particularly well; but as a group, I think it shows we care.

“We spoke about bouncing back at the weekend in what could have been a tricky game against Sunderland, the expectation and the pressure was on us to go and win the game, thankfully we’ve done that.

“Sheffield Wednesday is a tough place to go, they’ve probably not done as well as they would have hoped. But it is a good opportunity for us to get points on the board. We’ll definitely be going into it looking to carry on our away form and take three points.”
