Neil Delighted With Davies' Development

23 March 2018

Manager Alex Neil was pleased to see another of his players commit their future to the club after Ben Davies signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal at Deepdale.

The gaffer praised the defender for his performances so far this season and feels the deal is another sign of where the club is heading.

On Ben's new contract, the PNE boss said: "It's reward for all of the effort and the quality that he's shown this year, he's broken in to the team and he's been a key performer for us. So it's a reward for him and it's also us looking forward and planning for the future and Ben wants to be a part of that which is great news.

"He's been great, I think all of the loans he's had, particularly last year at Fleetwood, have been key in his development in terms of developing him in to the player that he's become and we are now reaping the benefits of all of that.

"I think from when the season started to where we are now he's improved game by game, he's in a great position for himself and for us to hopefully go and kick on and become a real top player."

Davies has been at PNE since the age of 11, and with developing youth a key factor for Alex, he feels both the players and the club have a mutual respect for each other with the club giving the players a chance to show what they can do.

"A lot of they players feel a duty towards the club because a lot of them have been given their chance here.

"They have obviously rewarded us with good performances but equally we have rewarded them with new contracts and given them a great platform to develop and I don't think Ben is any different.

"Ben wants to be part of things, I think everybody can see we are going in the right direction and hopefully we can continue that."
