Youth Team To Face Wigan Athletic In Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup Final

4 May 2018

The youth team will be hoping to end their campaign on a high this weekend in the upcoming Lancashire FA Professional Youth Cup final against Wigan Athletic.

Nick Harrison’s side defeated Oldham Athletic 6-2 in the semi-final of the competition just over a week ago, and have since beaten Shrewsbury Town by a similarly resounding 5-2 scoreline in their final Youth Alliance league match of the season, too.

The young Lilywhites are the joint top scorers in the competition with eleven goals – along with the Latics. PNE defeated Fleetwood Town on penalties and then Accrington Stanley in the first half of the season before last month’s win over Oldham in the last four.

Meanwhile, Wigan secured victories over Bolton Wanderers, Morecambe and Burnley on their way to the final. Their last game was a 1-0 defeat against Luton Town in the Youth Alliance Cup final in midweek, but they had also won their previous two games before then.

The two sides have already contested three games this term, all ending in 3-0 scorelines, with North End victorious on one occasion and losing the other two.

North End are the home team for the final but the game will be played at Wigan’s Christopher Park Training Ground (postcode WN6 8LB) in an 11am kick-off. All those wishing to attend can do so free of charge.
