Chris Maxwell Conducts Lesson With PNE Students

17 October 2018

North End goalkeeper Chris Maxwell leaves no finer detail when it comes to planning and preparation for games, and that shone through when he gave an insight into his diet to students of the education programme.

Those studying a Level Three Extended Diploma in Sport and Exercise at Preston North End were treated to the wise words of the shot stopper as part of their nutrition module, using the knowledge and experience of Maxwell as part of their assignment.

“We’re advised by the club who give us guidance, advice and support when it comes to our diets,” said PNE’s Player Ambassador for Health during the question and answer session conducted at the community offices at Deepdale.

“You have to look after yourself – it’s a team sport and if you’re not looking after yourself and the person in your position is and they play better than you – they’ll play.

“I’m very much into fitness and nutrition anyway, so I will try and eat 40 percent protein, 40 percent carbohydrates and 20 percent vitamins and minerals daily. As a goalkeeper you don’t need to have as many carbohydrates as maybe a player might, so I’ll eat more protein then say a box to box midfielder.

“Nutrition in football has changed a lot in the last 10 to 15 years. You may have seen a few overweight players back then but I don’t think you can get away with it in the modern day, especially with the way we play with the high press.”

An advantage of having a professional footballer as a guest speaker is just one of many bonuses that studying at Preston North End can offer students who can either study a Level Two or Three Diploma in Sport and Exercise.

Post-16 students have the option of studying either course dependent on their GCSE results, and once they’ve finished the course, there’s an option to study a Foundation Degree in Community Football and Coaching at PNE in conjunction with the University of South Wales.

Want to know more? We are hosting an open evening tomorrow at Deepdale from 6.30pm where tutors and coaches will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about studying at PNE. Call 01772 693309 or email Education@pne.comto find out more.
