Preston North End vs Wigan Athletic Match Preview

4 October 2018

North End face the Latics at Deepdale for the first time since Jordan Hugill’s goal gave the Lilywhites all three points in front of the Sky Sports cameras two years ago

Since then, our visitors have been down and bounced straight back up, with Paul Cook bringing his side – who have started the season in a positive fashion – to PR1, his first visit with a team since his Chesterfield side lost in the Play-Off semi-final.

The Wigan side is all-change since that last meeting, with former PNE favourite Joe Garner leading the line and looking to put one over on his boyhood club – as you can hear if you listen to this week’s PNE Podcast.

For Alex Neil and his men, they picked up their first point on the road in Tuesday’s six-goal thriller at Villa Park and they are looking to build some momentum going into the international break by picking up the three points in front of their own fans.

There’s less than 20 miles between the two stadia, so this is certainly a local derby, even if a more modern one, which means with a decent-sized away following - with just over half the Bill Shankly Kop sold – there should be an atmosphere to enjoy.
