Ben Davies Wants Elland Road Repeat

17 September 2018

Our trip to Yorkshire just three weeks ago was a red letter day for centre half Ben Davies as he captained the Lilywhites to victory in the Carabao Cup second round.

He and the team return to Elland Road on Tuesday night, where Davies took the armband for the first time at first team level, and they are looking for a repeat of that performance and result against a high-flying Leeds United side who are unbeaten in the Championship.

Speaking to iFollow PNE ahead of the fixture the No.6 said: “Personally I am looking forward to going back; we all are really. It was good a few weeks ago and we have shown we can go there and get a result; albeit there were a lot of changes for both sides.

“It will be a completely different game, but we have got nothing to fear in terms of going there and believing we can get a positive result.

“I remember last season, I was on the bench and got a taste of what it is like to play at Elland Road. We went down to ten men that day and saw it out for a 0-0. There crowd was trying to suck the ball into the back of the net and I remember that atmosphere well and I am looking forward to going back, hopefully playing and hopefully that atmosphere will spur us on.”

Looking back to the weekend Davies feels the team are being punished for little errors that perhaps they were not last season, but feels the team will work hard to eradicate those errors and get things in the ascendency again.

“On Saturday I thought the formation was working well; it created a lot of chances for us and we just need to cut out the mistakes because they are costing us at the moment.
“Maybe they weren’t last season, but it is just the way it is and we have to deal with it. We just have to be fully concentrated for the whole game and try and cut out those issues and keep creating chances at the same time.

“We had a successful season last year and we knew it would be hard to repeat that this year, but we are still confident and we have faith that we can do it. A few weeks ago we went to Leeds and people could be forgiven for believing we wouldn’t get a result, but we went there and won 2-0 and kept a clean sheet, so we still have the belief we can go there, play well and get a good result.

“We are looking forward to getting onto the next game quite quickly after Saturday and getting the right result.”
And Ben says that a good result on Tuesday can spark a run that will see the side soon moving in the right direction: “Saturday was the first of seven games in 22 days and if we can get a result as soon we can, that boosts confidence and we can then kick on from there.

“We have a tough game again on Saturday and they keep coming, but we are just concentrating on Tuesday and trying to get a result in that one first. We are expecting a big crowd for a top of the league side who have started the season well, but we have to up our it and everyone needs to be on top of their game and hopefully we can come out on top,” he added.
