Robinson On Leading The Line

1 September 2018

Callum Robinson was happy to mark his first taste as a striker this season with a goal, but was disappointed that the Lilywhites couldn’t get the three points this afternoon.

North End’s No. 7 started proceedings with a neat finish past the goalkeeper on 11 minutes with Alan Browne finding the net five minutes later, however, North End were pegged back with two goals later in the half and the game ultimately ended with the points shared.

“We all wanted to get the win and looking at the game we probably should have won,” assessed Robinson post-match.

“It’s annoying that we just can’t get this win at the moment. There are good signs going forward but it’s just obviously disappointing. If you’re going in at half-time 2-0, you’d say we’d go on and win the game but today it wasn’t meant to happen.

“I’ve been put up top today and it means you can get into those positions a little bit more. Brandon did really well and his positioning was good when they tried to switch it. He did really well to nick it.

“I’m obviously really happy to get my first goal this season to get going but it’s a little bit annoying that we didn’t finish them off and get the win that we wanted.”

Robinson was left with a bitter taste when it came to the analysis of this afternoon’s game, and spoke about the ‘small margins’ that aren’t going North End’s way at the moment.

“It’s small margins that we keep talking about this season,” continued Robinson. “It’s not happening for us, we have the international break now and let’s see what we bring now for next month.

“If you go in at 2-0, you probably don’t start talking about this but it’s one of them things and you then start thinking we were too soft in that first half - it’s all about small margins.

“We shouldn’t think too much at the moment and with the character that we’ve got in the squad - we can kick on, definitely.

“We’re thinking did we go too attacking or too defensive but at the end of the day, if you go in 2-0, I think we would have went on and won the game and we wouldn’t be talking about it. We shouldn’t be thinking too negatively about it but I think with the character in the dressing room, we’ll stick together.

“I think for the first time, this season we were going into fixtures and we weren’t the underdogs but we’ve still got the same players for when we were underdogs.

“We don’t get too high when it’s going really well and I don’t think we’ll go too low now, the only thing we can do now is improve, train hard and make sure we’re ready for the next few fixtures.
