Browne Delighted To Win Goal Of The Season Award Again

30 April 2019

North End midfielder Alan Browne is delighted after winning the club's Goal of the Season award for the second year running.

The Republic of Ireland international scored a superb volley in a 2-2 draw against Bolton Wanderers back in September and he admits that he still watches it back now.

Speaking to iFollow PNE after receiving his award he said: “I watch my clips back quite a lot so that's one I look back on when I'm maybe not playing so well and you can get a bit of confidence off it and learn from it as well.

“It's good to watch yourself back but I don't think I would have forgotten it anyway. It's one of my best goals since I've been here, I'm not sure if it's my best as I've not really sat down to think about it but it's definitely up there and it was a great goal.”

Browne added another impressive goal to his collection with his strike against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

He added: “I was happy to see it hit the back of the net because it's been a while since I'd scored so to get that scoring feeling back just before the end of the season was fantastic for me.

“I felt my ankle a bit again doing it but it was worth the goal and I don't think the injury is too serious.”

The 24-year-old also shared his delight for teammate and friend Ben Davies, who won the Players' Player of the year and the Sir Tom Finney player of the year awards.

“He's had a fantastic season, he was the same last year and I think he upped his game again this year. I know myself how hard he works and I know that he'll come back even better again next year so if you think this year was good I can't wait to see in action next year.” Browne continued.

“He's got an unbelievable career ahead of him as he's still young and still learning the game so I'm sure it's a great learning curve for him.”

Looking ahead to next season, Browne is confident that the team can improve even further as North End target the play-offs.

He said: “We're still a really young squad and we've a long way to go but I think we've got the right people in place to take us to the next step.

“Hopefully that can come next year but it's all about building on this year and making sure we come back ready to go again.”
