The frontman underwent a scan and assessment on Monday to check the extent of the problem, but he will not be available for the clash with his hometown club in front of the Sky cameras.

Andrew Hughes travelled with the team to South Wales and will also be assessed to see whether he is ready to make a return to the squad, having missed the clash with the Swans. If he does not make it, weekend goalscorer Joe Rafferty could keep his place.

Andre Green replaced Moult as the frontman on Saturday, but with Sean Maguire, Jayden Stockley and Tom Barkhuizen all options, the manager will have plenty to consider before naming his starting XI.
However, David Nugent is still not available after the calf injury he picked up in the behind closed doors game two weeks ago.

In Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Derby County, Nathan Jones handed bet365 Stadium debuts to two of his summer signings - Scott Hogan, who arrived on a season-long loan from Aston Villa and defender Liam Lindsay, who was suspended for the opening day showdown with Queens Park Rangers.

England international keeper Jack Butland ushered a back four that comprised of Tommy Smith, Danny Batth, Lindsay and James McClean. Ryan Woods started at the bottom of a diamond with Joe Allen and Sam Clucas just in front, with Tom Ince lining up against his former employers in the No.10 role.

Hogan and former Millwall and FC Halifax Town predator Lee Gregory both got the nod to start in attack, meaning Sam Vokes and Tyrese Campbell had to make do with a spot amongst a strong looking substitutes bench.

Stoke City line-up versus Derby County: Butland; Smith, Batth (c), Lindsay, McClean; Woods; Allen, Clucas; Ince, Hogan, Gregory. Subs: Federici, Edwards, Collins, Etebo, Duffy, Vokes, Campbell.
