Bauer Delighted With First Goal

23 July 2019

Patrick Bauer was delighted to get his first goal in a PNE shirt in North End’s 1-1 draw with Accrington Stanley at the County Ground.

Bauer opened the scoring after 39 minutes, heading home a wonderfully flighted Paul Gallagher cross as PNE created plenty of first half chances.

Although Accrington equalised on the stroke of half time, the German defender was pleased with the game against a tough opponent.

Speaking to iFollow PNE, he said: “It was a good game, a good opponent. I scored my first goal, I’m delighted with it but I think we created more than enough chances to win the game so that’s disappointing.

“To be honest the cross from Gally was brilliant, I just need to put my head on it so all praise to him.

“That’s one of my strengths, to clear the ball, but also in both boxes. I think I showed that today.”

Having joined the club in the summer from Charlton, Bauer feels he has taken some time to settle in at North End

But now that he has had some time under his belt at the club, Bauer is hoping for the whole squad to push on, with eyes beginning to look towards the start of the season.

“It took a little bit to settle in but now I’m settled in and really happy to be here with the boys,” he said.

“Last season we had quite a few injuries but hopefully this season we can start the season without too many. The squad is very strong and its very competitive, everyone wants to be in the squad for the Millwall game.

“There are so many games, with the cup and the league, injuries and sending offs will come and it’s just about players coming in and who can step in.”
