Manager Alex Neil gave his thoughts on the signing of David Nugent while speaking to the media for the first time since his arrival was confirmed.
The gaffer feels the striker will bring plenty of experience to his squad, and hopes he can help the younger players in their development.
Speaking to iFollow PNE, the manager said: "He’ll add experience, he’ll add guile and what he will do is he will help our young squad. We’re very hopeful that he’s going to be good for us this season in terms of getting goals and leading the line and helping the squad out.
"He played in the semi-finals in the Championship [Play-Offs] last year, so we all know his pedigree, he’s got goals in him and he is a good lad as well. We’re pleased that we’ve managed to capture him."
Nugent is currently completing his rehab after a knee injury at the end of last season, but the manager hopes he can feature at some stage in pre-season ahead of the season opener on Saturday 3rd August.
"To be fair, he’s trained well and he’s been training with the lads. He’s been doing bits of the session and then going with Tom [Little, fitness coach] and topping himself up.
"What he’ll do now is he will start doing more of the training with us and Tom will top him up afterwards because he’s probably just a couple of weeks behind having had a knee operation in the summer. He’s not far away at all, we’re very hopeful that we can get him involved in games as soon as we can."
