DJ Ready To ‘Fight’ Until The End

2 March 2019

Midfielder Daniel Johnson reiterated that the aim of the Play-Offs is still very much the target for North End after they were pegged back by sixth placed Bristol City this afternoon.

The Robins currently occupy the final Play-Off spot which North End are aiming for, and with the gap remaining at six, Johnson is very much focused on catching them.

“We knew it was an important game as they’re in the position we want to be in at the end of the season but it’s a decent point at the end of the day” said North End’s No. 11 post-match.

“The table is ridiculous and it just shows once you start picking up points and we start closing that gap, anything can happen.

“We know what’s required; we’ll just keep fighting and keep plugging away and try and get higher up the table. We’ve got a big game on Saturday so we’ll look to go down there and get the three points.”

Johnson marked his return to the starting XI with a fine goal midway through the first half by meeting Paul Gallagher’s free kick short before finding the top corner, and the midfielder admitted that the goal was premeditated.

“Me and Gally have been doing that since we were in League One” continued Johnson. “It’s come off a couple of times and sometimes it hasn’t, when we got the free kick we just said we’d give it a go and lucky for us it came off.”

North End will be disappointed this afternoon that Johnson’s finish wasn’t the winner that they’d hoped for with replays showing that Bristol City’s equalising goal was in fact offside.

Johnson added: “We controlled the game, grinded it out when we needed to, and when we look back on it, their goal is offside but that happens in football.

“We’ve had goals given to us where people might have been in offside positions so it does happen and it’s just bad luck.”
