Maguire Scores First Ireland Goal In Win In Dublin

14 November 2019

Sean Maguire scored his first senior goal for Republic of Ireland in their 3-1 win over New Zealand.

It was a stunning strike from the 25-year-old who was also awarded man of the match after an impressive performance at the Aviva Stadium.

Maguire started the game alongside North End teammate Alan Browne, as Mick McCarthy named a youthful side for their friendly in Dublin ahead of Monday night's crucial qualifier against Denmark.

Browne got his eighth cap for the boys in green and got 66 minutes on the night, while Maguire made his seventh appearance, playing 74 minutes as Ireland came from a goal down to get the win.

The visitors took a surprise lead in Dublin before Derrick Williams equalised before half-time. Maguire then fired home a powerful effort from outside the box to put Mick McCarthy's side ahead before former North End man Callum Robinson completed the scoring with his first goal for Ireland.

Next up for the boys in green is that Euro 2020 qualifier in Dublin against Denmark, with Ireland needing a win to secure a place at next year's tournament.
