Manchester City become the 70th different club we have faced in the many iterations of the league cup since our first game against Peterborough United on 11th October 1960.
We have played 168 games in the competitions, winning 70, drawing 35 and losing 62. This is our 81st game at Deepdale, with a record of won 41 and lost just 17.
We have reached the third round on 21 occasions, but only progressed to the fourth round five times, all of these resulting in away ties. The most recent was three seasons ago, when we lost against Newcastle United.
This is the first time City have visited PR1 in a competitive game since 2007, when David Nugent scored an early opener in front of the live BBC cameras in the FA Cup, only for the visitors to eventually run out 3-1 winners.
This time they arrive as holders of all domestic trophies and on the back of an 8-0 win over Watford at the weekend, so Alex Neil and his side are well aware of the test they face.
