Ben Davies: “We’re Finding Ways To Win”

29 December 2020

Ben Davies feels that PNE have found a bit of balance recently as they made it three wins on the bounce on Tuesday evening against Coventry City.

Goals from Daniel Johnson and Sean Maguire gave PNE the three points, winning 2-0 at Deepdale, and keeping a third consecutive clean sheet.

Ben told iFollow: “It’s been difficult at times this year on and off the pitch for everyone, but on the pitch recently we’ve got it going a bit. I wouldn’t say we’ve played particularly well but we’re winning and keeping clean sheets which is always good.

“I think tonight once we got through that first half when they were quite threatening, I think the confidence from recent clean sheets grew.

“It definitely helps when you’ve kept a few clean sheets, it helps you keep it, so we’re quite happy and ticking along quite nicely at the minute.”

Ben has been used from the start whenever available so far this season and tonight he was at the centre of a back three, with Paul Huntington and Josh Earl either side of him.

He said: “Anywhere along the back I’ll try and do my best but I felt comfortable tonight and I think as a team, in the second half especially, I felt we had confidence in the fact that if we scored, especially when we got the second, that we could go on and see the game out.”

The victory against Coventry puts North End up to 11th in the Championship table on the back of the past two victories against Bristol City and Derby County, and Ben is well aware of what a run in this division can lead to.

“It’s quite a tight league and if you get them wins you can climb it fairly quickly,” he told iFollow. “I’ve said before it’s better to win one and lose one than draw two in a row. You get more points even though it seems like you’re doing better if you’re unbeaten.

“We’ve kind of found a bit of balance recently. Although we’re not playing particularly well, we’re finding ways to win which is obviously really pleasing.”

PNE return to action this Saturday when Nottingham Forest come to Deepdale before the squad will then have a full week’s rest ahead of the FA Cup trip to Wycombe Wanderers.

“This is the last week for a few weeks where we’ve got a midweek game so after Saturday we’re through that bulk of fixtures and then we can put more time on the training ground into the games coming up so hopefully we can continue what we’ve recently done.”
