Ben Davies was delighted that PNE stayed strong defensively under pressure in the first half, giving them a platform to go on and win the game.
Davies and his teammates frustrated the hosts as they managed to maintain their clean sheet despite the Potters creating a number of chances, especially late in the opening 45.
Ben said: “We had to soak up quite a lot of pressure and then we’ve got two good goals from set pieces which is pleasing.
“There’s different ways to win games and I think tonight we’ve shown that we can dig in and nick a goal.
“I thought we stuck at it well. We definitely didn’t play as well as we can do but we stuck to our task and we kept them out when we needed to.
“Then we created a couple of opportunities in the second half even if they were from set pieces so we’re very pleased with how it turned out.”
Ben was involved in both of PNE’s goals, knocking the ball down to goalscorers Alan Browne and Tom Barkhuizen.
“I hope they go down as assists! I just said to DJ put the ball in the frame of the goal and we can attack it.
“I’m in and around it both times so I’m delighted it’s dropped to us a couple of times. If that’s the way we had to win the game tonight then so be it.”
North End were backed by over 1,000 supporters in the bet365 Stadium and the defender paid his respects to the travelling faithful.
“I thought the fans were brilliant tonight. It’s not too far for them but you’ve got to appreciate that we’ve had an away game at the weekend and obviously it’s a cold night down the M6.
“We’re delighted with the turnout and they were vocal which is always a big help for us and we want their support as often as we can this season.
“I was delighted for the lads, delighted for the whole team, the staff and the fans tonight.”
