North End Progress In Ultimate Quaran-Team Tournament

23 March 2020

Preston North End have secured their place in the next round of the Ultimate Quaran-Team Tournament in dramatic fashion!

PNE faced Doncaster Rovers in the first round of the FIFA20 competition, which was set up by league two side Leyton Orient, and have now sealed a place in round two thanks to heroics from Declan Rudd.

North End fan Jack Mountain was the man in control as he went head to head with Doncaster Rovers fan Daniel Pearson in the tournament which is raising funds for three worth causes, full details here.

The tie went to a replay after the first encounter ended 3-3, North End coming from behind twice to keep their hopes alive.

The visitors had taken a two goal lead before a David Nugent strike halved the deficit for the Lilywhites. Doncaster then scored a third to restore their two-goal advantage but a Paul Gallagher brace ensured the tie went to a replay, with the equaliser coming in the final seconds of the game.

It was a different story in the replay with North End going ahead through Nugent, before the Lilywhites were pegged back just before half-time.

Paul Gallagher then restored the lead for PNE finishing off a fine team move but the drama was still to come.

In the 90th minute Doncaster were awarded a penalty which was taken by Whiteman but Rudd got a strong hand to it to send North End through to the next round.

The second round ties are set to take place from 7pm on Tuesday 24th March, and details of the draw will be confirmed on social media once the draw has been made.

Once again the second round tie will be available to watch live on the club YouTube channel!
