On This Day… 25th March 1999: Grezza Joins PNE

25 March 2020

For many North End fans who have only watched the club for the last two decades, this date will be one that had a significant effect on their viewing.

The 25th March 1999 was the day the club spent £50,000 to buy a 27-year-old from Luton Town, who would go on to become a player who currently sits tenth in the all-time appearance list for the Lilywhites – Graham Alexander.

‘Grezza’ became a firm fans favourite at Deepdale, notching up 421 appearances, which ended with a fairytale finish, scoring with his last touch in professional football after 1,000 games, against Charlton Athletic in April 2012.

The Official PNE Podcast has a two-part extended special with the man himself, to look back on that career, so check out PNE.Com for details of part one, which we are launching to coincide with today’s anniversary of his signing.
