We look back to the late 1980’s and the culmination of another positive season under John McGrath.
The final day of the 1987/88 campaign saw the Lilywhites face champions Wolverhampton Wanderers at Deepdale as they finished the regular league fixtures by setting up a Play-Off tie with Port Vale.
The season ended with a pulsating 3-3 draw with the division three champions, which saw North End enter the modern Play-Offs for the first time.
Tony Ellis gave us a 22nd minute lead, but Andy Mutch equalised six minutes later.
A good crowd of crowd of over 14,000 saw Wolves play like champions with two goals in a ten-minute spell mid-way through the second half, but honours were to shared.
The Lilywhites went into the additional fixtures boosted after two equalising goals in the final two minutes. Ellis' second gave the home fans hope in the 88th minute and the very next attack saw Mark Patterson crown the comeback with seconds left.
