PNE Beat Blackburn To Progress In Football Manager Cup

5 May 2020

Preston North End knocked Blackburn Rovers out of the EFL Football Manager Cup as the Lilywhites progressed to the quarter-finals of the competition.

North End were 2-0 winners on Tuesday night when they made the virtual trip to Ewood Park, with Sean Maguire and Tom Barkhuizen both on target in the second half to seal the win.

The tie was the toughest test yet for virtual boss James Moulding who had beaten Crawley Town and Salford City to reach this stage, but his side had too much for Rovers on the night.

It was a fairly even contest but North End's clinical edge in the second half proved to be the difference against virtual Rovers manager and striker Adam Armstrong.

North End now head in to the quarter finals of the competition with the draw set to take place this weekend once the remaining round of 16 have all been played.

The tournament is also looking to raise awareness and funds for the EFL's charity partner Mind. During these difficult times, their services are needed more than ever so if you are able to, please support them where you can by clicking here.

The schedule for the remainder of the tournament is as follows:

The Quarter Finals – 11th May to 14th May
The Semi-Finals – Saturday 16th May
The Final – Sunday 17th May
