Our Play-Off Rewind series is back this Sunday as we stream the Play-Off semi-final second leg against Birmingham City from that memorable night on this day from 2001!
The Lilywhites head in to the game with work to do after a 1-0 defeat in the first leg at St Andrew's but confidence is high within the dressing room that the tie can be turned in North End's favour at Deepdale.
Defender Nicky Eaden scored the only goal of the game in the 54th minute in the first leg on 13th May 2001 to give the Blues an aggregate lead going in to the second leg.
North End arguably had the better chances in the first half but the hosts took the lead ten minutes in to the second half as Eaden pounced on a loose ball to shoot high in to the net to give the home side the lead.
The Lilywhites came close to an equaliser through David Healy but his header on 74 minutes was well-saved by Birmingham 'keeper Ian Bennett.
Speaking after that game, manager David Moyes was still hopeful of his side's chances heading in to the home leg, saying: "People shouldn't forget how quickly we have come in a such a short space of time and I suppose a few nerves were only to be expected. We would desperately have liked to get a goal, but we are still in with a great chance."
It all comes down to the second leg with a place in the final at Cardiff up for grabs for the winner!
