Browne Features For Republic of Ireland

8 October 2020

Midfielder Alan Browne was a second half substitute for Republic of Ireland in their Euro 2020 play-off semi-final defeat to Slovakia.

The semi-final went to extra time after it ended 0-0 at the end of the 90 minutes, and with neither side able to break the deadlock in extra time, it was down to a penalty shootout which Slovakia won 4-2 after two missed penalties for Stephen Kenny's side.

Browne impressed throughout the game for the boys in green, having a good effort saved in the second half before being denied by a goal-line clearance and then the post in extra time.

Ireland were the better side on the night but it ended in heartbreak for Browne and his teammates, losing out in the penalty shootout with the North End midfielder seeing his penalty saved before Matt Doherty hit the bar with which handed Slovakia the victory.

Focus turns to the Nations League now for Republic of Ireland with the visit of Wales on Sunday afternoon before a trip to Finland on Wednesday.
