Browne In Action For Ireland

7 September 2021

Alan Browne was in action once again for Republic of Ireland on Tuesday night as he started against Serbia in the 1-1 draw in Dublin.

Browne was recalled to the starting Xl after making a late appearance from the bench at the weekend against Azerbaijan and played 58 minutes before being replaced by former North End team-mate Callum Robinson.

It was a crucial qualifier for Ireland as they looked to keep their dreams of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup alive. Serbia took the lead on 20 minutes through Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinković-Savić, but Ireland kept their slim hopes alive with a late own goal earning them a point in Group A.

Browne was booked early in the second half for a foul on the half-way line and with that his second of the campaign, he will now miss Ireland's next qualifier against Azerbaijan in October.

The PNE skipper will now return to Euxton on Thursday to join the rest of the squad in their preparations for Saturday's return to league action against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
