O'Neill Delighted To Progress In Cup

25 September 2021

Preston North End’s Mikey O’Neill felt the team put in a 'decent performance' to get the victory against Bradford City and was delighted to get through to the next round of the cup.

Goals in both halves from O’Neill and Max Wilson were enough to pick up the three points as PNE emerged as 2-1 winners against Bradford City in the Youth Alliance Cup to secure their place in the next round.

“I thought the team put in a decent performance in what was a very scrappy game.

“In a game like that it’s important to get that goal and when we got that goal, we kept hold of the lead and when the lad went down (Sam Bentley), and the game got going again it was important for us to not mess it up and concede a stupid goal so I’m extremely happy we got the win.“

This marked O’Neill’s first goal of the season and even though he is pleased with the goal he believes he should have more and is targeting adding a lot more to his tally as the season goes on.

“It was very pleasing to score, but it’s been a long time coming I’ve had a lot of shots but no goals but hopefully this is the start, and I can get many more as the season goes on.”

The North End central midfielder is delighted that the team made it through into the next round but wants to go even further.

“We always want to go as far as we can in these cups, we're extremely happy that we have progressed and hopefully we can go even further.”
